So Stephen and I fought again about our favorite subject...  food. As most of you know, his extensive food allergies make life really difficult food-wise. A lot of poor people fill up on bread and pasta. This does not work when you're allergic to wheat. Thank goodness Stephen starts tomorrow at Fallon Ambulance in Quincy (for you non-Bostonians, ( Read more... )

I hear this. As stupid as it sounds, it's a big factor in my relationship, too. Since I've become a vegetarian who more or less follows Weight Watchers, eating with my boyfriend, Jared (NOT a vegetarian and DEFINITELY NOT following Weight Watchers), can be strained. He says it's one of the main concerns he has with the prospect of moving in together/getting married. This confirms my thoughts... it'll be a challenge. I know you and Stephen can get through it! It might just mean cooking separate meals for yourselves with a few joint elements (salads? Desserts?) I'll be curious to see if the dietician has any recommendations!

Cooking for one sucks. Cooking for one twice every meal sucks even more. And you know, I don't want to eat separate meals... eating meals together bonds people, and I would feel like roommates if we did that.

As for giving up my vegetarianism, I thought I'd never do it before we got married and moved in together. Our circumstances last semester resulted in feeling financially strapped constantly. Due to that, we ate as cheaply as possible, and it wasn't great. I was hungry a lot, and I started eating small amounts of meat again in order to start feeling full. I still can't eat more than half a meatball, but I'm getting there... I used to hate the taste of texture of meat, but I was so hungry, I stopped noticing. All in all, I hope our 12-week cycle will let us eat together, eat healthfully, and bring us together rather than tear us apart. Last week I was off school, so I did a lot of cooking. We'll see what the next few weeks hold.
