(first things first, playing devils advocate)

I'm gonna steer clear of the porn debate itself here, but I'm gonna toss this out there...the fact that Larry Flynt is a pornographer has nothing to do with this. The real story here is a sarcastic commentary on the fact the government has "bailed out" banks and private companies (the auto industry), so why shouldn't others be able to get in on this deal?

Again, I'm not advocating for porn (in fact, I stated that the issue isn't about porn at all), but I feel that a point was made. Also, it's been made known that this is not a genuine request, so all we're left with is the commentary on current events.

It wasn't a genuine request? Meaning, he was just kidding it was a giant practical joke? Huh, I was not aware. Could you send me a link on that story?

well, it wasn't a "practical joke" but it was a request made knowing full well that it would not be approved. Larry Flynt (in a political stance) was using the absurdity of his request to show his distaste for the fact that the government is handing out money to private companies. The auto industry, while important to the United States, is composed of private companies that made their own mistakes. The fact that they've been given money brought Larry Flynt to say "well if they can have money, why can't i?"

that's the point he was trying to make.

Also, Larry's contempt for Congress is legendary and he's never turned down a good opportunity for free publicity.
