I think any sort of intense academic program that forces you to face really tough questions both external to yourself and internally is bound to cause some major turmoil. I see your posts sometimes and think, wow, that's a tough issue. And you're thinking about this stuff everyday I bet, talking about it everyday, right?

Plus grad school has a way of making the most confident person feel like a total charlatan...it's like the army, it breaks you down in order to build you back up.

Yeah, they say that especially about seminary... although, since I'm nearing the end of my second year I'm wondering when the "building up" starts. It's hard having this stuff on your mind a lot... sometimes I think of quitting the ministry to be an office drone. At this point numbness actually sounds appealing.

I cried yesterday for seemingly no reason.

I mean, there is a lot going on for you. Sometimes the stress and uncertainty just manifest in crazy ways.

It's because you're a graduate student. Seriously. Graduate school makes feeling like total crap a way of life.
