I am so behind in writing on here and have much much to update... Since writing last I left Alaska, returned to Pennsylvania for a week, then took the Queen Mary 2 from Brooklyn to Southampton, England (very very romantical and wondrous), then spent a day in London and a day in Paris with Olivier before getting myself to Berlin, where I arrived ( Read more... )

i want to hear more about the QM2! we booked a nine day passage to germany back when we thought we were relocating there (it was the only way to get there without shipping our dogs as cargo)... of course those plans were eventually derailed. even though i am generally terrified at the thought of cruise ships (claustrophobia, viruses, unsavory types, etc - yuck) i was really looking forward to this one because it did seem pretty glamorous.

all of this stuff sounds fun, lucky you!

also, the selfish giant! i love that story. there was a sweet little animated version i used to show to the kids i was in charge of at bible school summer camp a million years ago (oooh, that's a laugh in retrospect). anyway, i just found it on youtube, memories!

oh it was so fun!! i will post about it in the next day or two! also: if you look on kayak.com under cruises and select "transatlantic" there are such cheap deals in the spring and fall. I almost considered coming home by myself on the QM2 -- there was a $900 ticket from Cherbourg, France, to NYC leaving on Nov 9 (an interior cabin but who cares if you alone!)... And that's 7 nights with all your fancy meals and entertainment...!

But I booked a flight with a stopover in Iceland instead! =P

Ive been on a few regular Caribbean cruises with my family and those are fun too, tho less elegant and high brow (QM2 had lectures and plays and jazz musicians from Julliard, etc etc, and 3 formal balls)... But every cruise is set up to keep you constantly entertained, so it's hard to not have fun on them, I think!! =)
