Not the topic that Dr. Foys wanted us to post on, but I thought what Emma brought up in class regarding customization of how she views her text related very much to...I think it was Ong, who said that with the advent of print also came highly personalized reading.  Well, I think his words were more along the lines of "personal privacy" or "word ( Read more... )

I think a lot of it has to do with control, control over language, which inevitably cannot be controlled by one person and is instead shared among millions of people.

In addition, the privatizing of words reflects our constant desire for individuality, although language is an inherently communal form. Its an unending battle between our individualistic desires and the socially centered nature of language.

Oh, and concerning your comics,...I really have nothing to say about this, except; Where do you find this stuff, Matt?

Ironically, when I read my friendspage with style=mine, your comics broke my layout and I couldn't read three or four other entries. Maybe this is one instance where control isn't all that it's cracked up to be.
