Moving woes.

We hired movers for our Bronx to Queens move, who were supposed to arrive at 1:30 on Friday.  They showed up at 6:30pm, looked at our stuff, and said it was going to take 7 hours--twice as long as they quoted and totally inflated.  His exact words were, "I can tell she only quoted you 3 1/2 hours to get you to book."  I told him that had the same ( Read more... )

It was HOT this past weekend! At least it's all in the past now and you can enjoy you're new place. :)

Did you say the neighborhood was called Briarwood? Or something similar? Neil's family lives in Richmond Hill and his sister goes to Queens College. I don't know how close Richmond Hill is to your new place. They live on 124th Street, 2 blocks from Liberty - where all the Guyanese and Indian restaurants and stores are.

Yeah, I know! It was hellish! We were all sweating like pigs running up and down all those steps. Mike and I have been working until like midnight every night this week rearranging and assembling furniture. We're getting there! Mike has off all of next week, except for the day he goes in for registration, so we should be totally settled in by next weekend.

Richmond Hill is not too far from Briarwood, actually. We're actually really close to Queens College--a couple of blocks from where Queens Blvd. and Main St. intersect. Yay! That'll make it really easy for you to visit!

I think that is especially true in NYC. I've heard horror stories of movers that get all of your stuff on their truck, and then hold it hostage for some exorbitant amount of money. Considering the late hour (they weren't going to start until 7pm) and the talk about twice as much time and money, I thought that might be what was coming next. So I was all, "GET. OUT. NOW."

I must be naive due to my first experience with movers being so ideal. The movers I used in Philly wouldn't even take a coke from my mom until they went off the clock. They were awesome. I didn't even get a recommendation from anyone for them...picked them out of the phone book.
