For that presentation I would start with the argument that wars inherently cause bring social and economic problems for countries, but once wars start they need to be finished no matter what the economy is doing. OH and you could even mention that the alliance powers (us lot) harnessed Germany's economic weakness in tying up the war at Versaille, crippling them with reparations so that it would take them ages to get round to starting a new one (war). And in fact you could say that Britain even managed to override some of them by extending the franchise around that time to give women more powers/rights to jobs and in turn helped to stregnthen the economy and henceforth help us ride out the war all those years. Give it a bit of balance, y'know?

That's pretty much what I have! I'll add the bit about womens rights, though. Think it'll be good point to finish on. Found some stuff on the actual costs of the war (in terms of lives and $$$) so i'm going to put that in at the end and be all "yeah, if it didn't last this long these could have been reduced" blah blah.

BUT, just had a wee thought there you might want to check that gender/economic aspect was for WW1. I can't (be arsed to) check the now but it'd be annoying if you constructed an argument on it to have your tutor say, 'eh that was WW2 actually'
