[Open post] Further down the literary rabbit hole

Feb 09, 2013 20:05

Fuchsia's been dealing with everything, the way she always does: completely ignoring reality.  She's managed to find herself a collection of terrible romances, and will part with them like her father did his own library, with depression and possible madness.

While she's managed to avoid anything about shades of grey (though she did make her way ( Read more... )

Cathy has been reading a collection of essays which Paul had recommended -- no, kindly assigned her to read. She's not sure what to make of some of it, though she appreciates that the author has encouraged women to write and write as they see fit.

She might just be coming into the common room, when she spies her Twilight-loving friend. "Lady Fuschia, greetings," she says, curtseying. "It has been a long time since last we spoke. Have you found some new literary treasure?" she asks, eying the book.

"He must have a true appreciation of literature as well. How lovely."

She thinks back, "I cannot recall if I've met him."

How horrible! Anyone who interests Cathy, is someone Fuchsia wants to meet.

"I could introduce you to him: and I know that you shall enjoy his company," she says. "He knows much of vampire lore, and perhaps he would be willing to share it with you."

Oh, boy, that could get... myth-dispelling....

"I would be so happy to meet your suitor." The excitement is almost too much. To meet Cathy's suitor makes Fuchsia feel properly considered, important even. It's a rare thing.

"Then I shall arrange it posthaste! A meeting such as this should not be delayed for too long," she says, with a girlish bob and with her hands clasped in delight.

"Should it be a formal event?" She has another thought, "or a chance meeting? We could arrange it so I ran across you with him, so he would not feel any pressure."

Like Paul's an idiot.

"I would make it a formal event: Mister Paul is a very proper gentleman, and so it would be fitting if we made a formal meeting of it. Perhaps it could take place over tea?" she suggests.

Fuchsia has an idea, beware.

"Or we could be eminently formal and have a proper dinner. He could dine with me." This would wind up with the trouble of finding ways to have a formal meal when their are neither servants nor cooking abilities, on Fuchsia's part.

"Oh, that might be a fuss," she says. Though the idea of a formal dinner intrigues her. "Though perhaps if we found a gifted chef, it might go better than we think. There are some folk who cook, who are to be found in the kitchen."

"We must find them then. It's only appropriate your suitor is properly dined." Fuchsia's thinking of where it could be held, decoration, all sorts of wonderful things.

"And we could avoid making him feel too fussed over by serving it ourselves."

"I would not mind serving at table: I have helped my mother and our housekeeper to serve when there was a dinner party for some of my father's friends," she says. "All we must do now is find someone to help us to plan and to cook the meal."

"We should put up a note asking for any chefs in the mansion. See if anyone answers." Fuchsia wonders if enough people would read the note if they put it on the common room wall.

"Shall I do the honors of posting the message?" she asks. "The sooner it is done, the sooner we can find a suitable cook."

The whole thing is exciting, and she is very much looking forward to seeing two people she's fond of meeting each other.

"Please, as you would know what's mot appropriate." The Book always determined how more formal events were run, so Fuchsia's used to just doing whatever comes next.

"I shall post it post-haste, if you will pardon the play on words," Cathy says, with a blush and a bob of excitement.

Fuchsia has to laugh at the play on words.

"That's so clever of you." At least with Fuchsia as a friend, Cathy will always be made to feel super clever. "Is it any wonder you're such a good author!"
