USB Microwave?

So, I had a great idea....well it wasn't all me, but I've got a question. Carrie, how hard would it be to modify a microwave to take input from a computer via usb (or any other standard interface). If that isn't too difficult, is it also plausible to hijack the output of the microwave and either replace and override it with an lcd, while still

I think it would first be an exercise in figuring out where the signals are, really. I'll give some more specifics

Sounds like research, and a junker microwave to try out things on... plus some equipment..... which probably means a pet project for after I find myself with more time than I currently have (driving for 3-4 hours a day will do that)
