I did a persuasive speech on the Call to Jihad when I was in a public speaking class. It was pretty much about how it's a call to pray not a call to kill.

I also did a paper on the effects of metal music on teens, that could be turned in to a persuasive speech.

So you have nothing that you want your classmates to do or think different. In my experience a persuasive speech works best when the speaker is enthusiastic about his cause. So I wouldn't necessarily choose a highly controversial topic but just one where you want to provoke a change in habits or thinking with your classmates or teacher. I just wrote an article on how to write a persuasive speech last week.

on the syllabus the headline of this speech is "Controversial persuasive speech topic". i am not enthusiastic about anything, i am full of apathy and self loathing. please forgive me, i am nothing but a waste of oxygen.
