I personally think most boys just don't pay attention. It seems that girls are more attentive, especially to details and comments while boys tend to see the big picture.

Girls see the trees and sometimes have a hard time seeing the forest... the boys see the forest but have a rough time seeing the trees. Of course this is a generalization but that's what I've noticed in most situations.
