i just heard that "they" are urging pregnant women to get the swine flu vaccine.

uh, that would weird me out if i was pregnant.

would you get a vaccine while you were pregnant considering vaccines contain live viruses?!

(i can't get on the board. humor me.)

I don't get vaccines under normal, not pregnant circumstances so I doubt I would get it.

I was teaching a class of new hires about the Neurological body system yesterday. In the afternoon, one of our awesome doctors came up to lecture. She was talking about post polio syndrome and said "Polio is so terrible. VACCINATE YOUR CHILDREN!"

I didn't even know they still did that!

Not a live virus in the flu shot.

I saw that, but it's still hasn't been tested so they can't prove that it's not contraindicated. Just so scary!

I'm all for vaccinating my kids if I ever have them. But, I think the whole Swine Flu thing is such a Hot Topic now that they might be putting the cart in front of the horse on this one. There was ONE DEATH of a pregnant woman and they are saying that pregnant women are more suseptible (sp!) to this flu. AND, the woman in question had an "underlying medical condition".

I want a baby, but all of this just makes me scared!

I think the swine flu panic is ridiculous. No way I'd get that shot.

When Emily was pregnant her doctor recommended the flu shot because she worked with kids. I wouldn't take it because I'm not really exposed to a lot of people. He did suggest the (thermosyl?) mercury free one. She had to make a couple of calls and found the right one at the local CVS.

Oh, and if THIS freaks you out about getting pregnant, you're in for a world of anxiety. Seriously. Pregnancy turns even normal folk into raving internet hypochondriacs.

The thing about the swine flu is that its pretty contagious, but not very virulent in a healthy person. The scary thing is that if it merges with the seasonal flu outbreak and mutates to a mega virus then there will be more deaths/sicknesses.

Don't worry about the swine flu vaccine. I would not get it if I were pregnant. I didn't get the seasonal flu vaccine when I was pregnant either. Just didn't feel the necessity.
