Who can be apped?
We are a panfandom game that permits OCs. Cool as they may be, we do not accept:
*AU versions of characters that are not canonical. (For example Nyotalia, or TYL!Reborn, or Disappearance!Haruhi characters are perfectly fine, but not characters from The Genderbending of Haruhi Suzumiya or Neville Longbottom the Chosen One, or something that you made up yourself).
*any fictional versions of Jesus, God, Mohammed, etc., or people that have commited major crimes against humanity (Hitler, Stalin, etc.).
*any real people. (you may, however, apply for the fictional representation of a real person, such as Anastasia as portrayed in the 1997 animated film.)
*doubles (unless they are from different canons. For example: If there is a child!Okita Souji from Peacemaker Kurogane in the game, you may not apply for his adult version. You may, however, apply for Okita Souji from Kaze Hikaru or Hakuouki)
My character is really huge/really small!
You may app characters of any size. They must, however, be downsized to fit through a door (7'x3').
For example: While a transformer, a giant or a dragon could be apped, they would be about only 8' tall normally, and their car transformations would only be fit to be driven by little children.
My character has a split personality or practically is one with another person!
This will be handled on a case by case basis. We ask players to contact the mods over this first (either use AIM, PM or the contact post) and explain to us why they want to do it the way they want to do it.
For example: Yugi/Yami Yugi; Halleluja/Allelujah: You could play both, or play only one and claim that the asylum gave them seperate bodies. Gretel/Hansel from Black Lagoon: You could play only one, or make a good case for them acting like one person and play both of them.
We encourage all of the above, but we want to hear from you how you would work with it.
My character has a typing quirk, can I keep that?
The short answer is: In the 1st person sample/
carriero/, yes; but in the 3rd person sample/
carriero-logs/logs: no.
The longer answer is:
If your character has a typing quirk, we'd like to ask you to do the following.
• When you apply, please include proof of your character's quirk into the canon resource section. (screenshots, scanned pages, links, etc)
• In case that the typing quirk makes your typing hard to read: Please include translations when posting. You can use hover text, or white text, or put it under a tag in brackets, that is up to you. When threading with people, try to ask them if they'd like translations.
•
carriero: Use your typing quirk right away, but please remember: If it is a TYPING quirk, please keep it to the written word only.
•
carriero-logs: Please use normal English.
My character has a quirk in his/her speech (for example: stuttering)
• When you apply, please include proof of your character's quirk into the canon resource section. (screenshots, scanned pages, links, etc).
In general, we ask you to:
• Limit your quirk to the spoken word.
• In case that the quirk makes what they say hard to read: Please include translations when posting. You can use hover text, or white text, or put it under a tag, or just normal text, that is up to you. When threading with people, try to ask them if they'd like translations.
• Keep it true to canon (that usually means doing a lot less of it). For example: Sweden from Hetalia d's n't t'lk l'k' th's. H' talks like th's. In cases like the pope from Trinity Blood, where a quirk varies between different media's versions of the same canon: Please make sure to make your character speak according to the media that you chose as your canon.
Can my character bring their pets?
Yes, but there are four restrictions:
1. They must be downscaled to the size of a domestic cat. Magical pets will lose their abilities (outside of events) and be downsized as well.
2. There can't be more than three per character.
3. There must be a good reason why they come with the character. Emotional dependance, actual physical dependance, or just the fact that you never see a character without the pet are good reasons. In general, if you want to bring a pet, it will be accepted on a case by case basis; it all depends on how good your reasoning is.
4. They need not be sentient enough to be apped as characters themselves. i.e. You couldn't bring Mokona from Tsubasa in as a pet, but the Magic Knight Rayearth version would be alright.
If you bring pets, we ask you to include the following into your application, as applicable: their names, their size, their number, their race, any abilities, and, most importantly, why they are important to your character.
What else can they bring?
Pretty much nothing. Everything that is a part of their body (like Edward Elric's automail) will stay with them, but everything else will be gone. They might get their weapons back during events, but don't count on it.
What happens to powers?
Upon arrival, all combat powers are taken away from the characters. There is something in the air that blocks them off. This changes when an event approaches: One day before it starts, their powers will be back because the substance in the air is removed, and they will stay until the event is over. Characters that have no supernatural powers, or that lose all of them because they have no non-combat ones, will be given one (little and rather useless) power.
So what exactly is this thing about having no combat abilities outside of events?
Well, 'no combat abilities' means that all supernatural abilites that CAN be used for combat (no matter if the character does it or not) will be sealed and only come back to them during events. The same goes for canonical weapons.
There are three possibilities for what can happen.
A. They have supernatural abilities that cannot be used for combat (mind reading (not mind control!), healing powers, visions of the future, etc).
B. All their supernatural abilities can be used for combat.
C. They don't have any supernatural abilities in their canon.
If they are type A, they will keep their non combat abilities.
• Katara from 'Avatar: The last airbender' keeps her healing ability, but loses the waterbending and bloodbending ability.
• Yuki from 'Fruits Basket' keeps his ability to change into a rat when sick or touched by a female.
• Angel from 'Maximum Ride' keeps her ability to breathe under water, talk to fishes and read people's minds, but loses the ability to control their thoughts, since she can control them into the person harming themselves or attacking others.
• Brad Crawford from 'Weiss Kreuz' keeps his ability to see the future.
If the are type B or C, and thus have no abilities outside of events, they will be provided with a new power that should be tiny and seemingly useless.
• Michael from 'Angel Sanctuary' has only destructive powers and would lose them outside of events.
• Robin from 'One Piece' would lose her devil's fruit ability, to grow additional arms out of everyonething, because, while the ability is not solely made for combat, can be used for it.
Basically, there are five types of such abilities:
a. Those based on the person's personality
b. Those based on something in canon that isn't a supernatural ability but hard to explain otherwise.
c. Those based on the person's original abilities
d. Those based on some OOC canon detail.
e. Other
a. • Ritsuka from 'Loveless' would now be able to remember everything that he sees a picture of, no matter if he actually remembers it or not.
b. • Tohma from 'Gravitation', in his canon, shows up in Eiri's room/apartment/etc without there being an explanation how he got there, sometimes from one to the next moment. His new ability is "Go to Eiri": He can get to Eiri wherever he himself, and wherever Eiri is. This ability only works for Eiri, and he cannot teleport away from him, or see beforehead where Eiri is right now.
• Ashura from 'RG Veda' is from Clamp. Clothes and hair fly in the wind dramatically, even if there is a perfect calm. Hir ability is "dramatic breeze"... there just will always be wind solely reserved for hir.
c. • Miku from 'Vocaloid' can now deafen people with her C7 notes.
• Kurama from 'Yuu Yuu Hakusho' would only be able to grow little, five inches high roses that he can't control anymore once they are grown.
d. • Romano from 'Axis Powers Hetalia''s new ability is growing tomatoes out of his head and hands. He has been portrayed in official illustrations with tomatoes on his head and is often compared to one.
• Yuri from 'Shadow Hearts' has in his game canon often speechbubbles with emoticons in them over his head that show his feelings to the player. They now hang over his head for real and visible to every character.
• A Disney character would automatically have backround music out of nowhere every time they start to sing.
e. • Darc from 'Arc: ' has one more human and one less human arm. His new ability is that he can decide which arm should look more human on a whim now, and control the process himself.
There is a list of everyone's outside-of-event abilities
here, in case you need inspiration.
My character needs some Super Special External Powersource to survive!
Linda will provide them with all their needs. Vampires will find blood in the cafeteria, and if there is something more special, please contact the mods about it and together we will find a way. In cases like Chrome's (KHR) organs, that are an illusion created by someone else, they will just still work... do you really want to rip her open and find out if they have been replaced with real ones or not?
Can I filter the air so I get my powers back?
Nope. But you can try. Linda will note it down.
WHO THE FUCK IS LINDA?!
The computer system that seems to be in charge. She's just trying to help you, really.
The 2nd magic word is: fountain.
So their powers will come back...?
Yes, and when that happens, you will know that doom is near aka the next event. This is why we need a detailed description of what they can do. The powers will be gone the moment that the event is over.
Why was my application wavered/rejected?
If you were flat out rejected, you either
- play three characters already and did not get an okay from the mods for apping a fourth;
- got banned from this game prior to applying
- wrote a blatantly OOC app (like: Sasuke Uchiha as happy-go-lucky, a moe, cowardly Sam Winchester, or Ami Mizuno throwing bitch fits all the time.)
- or you just have grammar and vocabulary mistakes that make us question your suitability to our game.
We aren't elitist and rejections will not happen often, as we will ask you to revise your application if we think you can pull it off. If you cannot revise what we ask you to, you will unfortunately be rejected.
Why is there a suitability section?
Because not all children will mentally and physically survive being brought to Carriero. While one 8-year-old might have seen a lot of bad things already and have learned to survive on their own, another child of the same age might have grown up differently and be definitely not able to survive on their own. We want to see that they won't have to completely rely on a certain canonmate, completely break after a short time, or something similar.
I really suck at writing samples!
That's okay! Not only can you submit roleplays done elsewhere so long as they are in a non-meta context (meaning
dear_mun posts don't count, but posts from another game would), but we also have our own dressing room at
carriero_dr. Feel free to post there to test suitability or create a sample post.
I still don't know what you want to see.
For your convenience we have sample posts that are located
here, so you can get an idea of what we'd like to see in an application. Your application does by no means have to look like them, but they might help you to figure out what we'd like to see.
Any other questions? Please ask them here.
