yay! that's a great idea about the blocks. I just use my ironing board (in a state of constant set-up) because I don't want another thing in my house-- but, this is really even better. I just recently really got into blocking, before I thought it was a bunch of crap- but WHOA it makes everything look much better.

your blanket looks awesome. i'd go for the 56 x 70. one other option is to then do a border or edging around the whole thing to add the length you want. you'll only need to buy one color of yarn and probably use the whole skein (plus it'll make all the unweildy blocks play nice, AND you can crochet over all of those edge ends with the border, if you are lazy like me).

good luck!

They're great! My ironing board would totally be in the way no matter where I put it, so this is perfect. It's seriously genius!

I think you're right about the size, and yeah, I was contemplating the border. They always look nicer and neater with a border, so I just have to do it, even if it means buying one more skein :)

Thanks!

love the squares, love the foam tile idea. genius!

i think the colors look so great together. i may be biased, though, as i'm currently sitting next to a rather insanely bright afghan crocheted for me by my mom as a going-to-college gift. crayon colors figure prominently.

and i am always all for a bigger blanket... more to snuggle with!

Thanks!

I hereby request a pic of the insanely bright mom afghan!!

I am also pro-snuggle. So now I just have to remember how I was making these--I made the last one ages ago, and didn't write down a pattern, but I figure I can sort of guess...
