I posted this here in case he doesn't accept my comment and this way other people could read it too, if they want. Let me know what you think... and definitely respond if you don't agree. I'm just another idiot human trying to figure stuff out so don't think i'll be bitter if you disagree. Here goes ( Read more... )

Utopias aside, I think your missing the point. The reason Christian's exist are because God, and no one else, sent Jesus, to save forgive them for their sins. You can't group being a good person and being religious in the same category cause they just aren't. Religion from the beginning of time has been a violent enterprise simply because of the importance that individuals place on their eternal soul. It isn't something that people can just accept because the simple fact is if the only way to heaven or salvation or whatever is through accepting Jesus, Muslims are wrong. Being kind to one another and animals and shit only goes so far. I consider us best friends, but you know good and well we argue about pretty much everything. We are able to continue to be friends after it because we know its all in good fun, but people tend to find their identitites in groups, and we all know that when two groups clash nothing comes but violence. At Auburn frat boys fight each other over secret handshakes and shit, but when Georgia comes they come ( ... )

I agree with you, if I'm reading your words correctly. There is no point in even actively trying to be a Christian if we don't believe that the Christian faith is the one and only way. It is much easier to be a good person and just avoid the topic all together since most answers to questions are "I don't know, it's just my faith, and I feel it is true." Arguing never has to be involved, though. With Christianity, there is an all-encompassing love. A love that doesn't fade even when a person rejects the faith for a final time. That love must always be present, or life is worthless. The problem occurs when we get into all the relativity. Or that's my problem. It seems so much easier to say "you believe what you want, and I believe what I want, and we'll just all get along" than to really stand firm in what we believe. I guess that will just always be my struggle. But, yes, in conclusion, at the very least respect everything.

I'm with sam. Regardless of our personal beliefs, there is no way to objectively prove whose religion is right. I think sam is pointing out how ridiculous it is to even address that question and saying let's move on to the things we can do that actually serve a purpose.
