My thoughts after watching Michael Moore's "sicko"

wow, i just watched Sicko (michael moore's new documentary about health care) and i am fired up. It wasn't even so much the fact that it showed how EVERYONE in france, the uk, canada, and even cuba get all their medical treatment for absolutely FREE, or how they get their prescription drugs for next to nothing, it was the fact that someone pointed ( Read more... )

did you know...that as a woman, I can go to my city's health center (not that it is great health care) and have my yearly exam and get a year's supply of birth control (not the generic kind) for free. they dont ask any questions...there are no restrictions. Now if it was just that way at a real doctor's office.

Sweden and Iceland are also countries which have socialist democracies. Their governments work incredibly well, and it seems that everyone is well taken care of. I would love for this method to work in our country, but most of the Swedish people seemed to think that it works so well for their country because it has a small population of people who were mostly on the same financial plane to begin with (minus the disabled, etc.) Our country is massive, and the level of those in poverty here is huge. I guess if the government could convince themselves that the money spent on Medicare and welfare could be redistributed for more socialist ideals that would do more for rehabilitating the poor and disabled than is happening now, it could work. Money would be saved in the end, I'm sure, since people would have more programs to utilize to better their lives. I believe there will reach a breaking point where only the very, very wealthy will have proper medical care in this country and some sort of revolt will take place. Unfortunately, ( ... )
