Sam paced his room while he spoke to his mom on the phone:

"No, Mom--Mom, I told you, I can't make it for Thanksgiv--because I'm at boarding school, Mom. In Maryland. No, it's definitely not Virginia, it's a long--no, I can't drive out. Helen walked in and stared at the note before turning to face her rapidly packing roommate.

"You want me to feed that? It doesn't even like me!"

She would, of course, she'd never let some poor creature go hungry. Even if it did aggravate her. It might spend the weekend in Sam's closet, though.

She raised an eyebrow at him. "Perhaps he should remain with your employer."

No, she was definitely not imagining the havoc the... thing would cause there. Not even for one second.
