This is my new favorite product support failure.
I own a
Samsung "network extender" (
Femtocell). I've had the thing for a few months because one of the locations I previously worked at was a total dead zone, as is my new apartment.
I've popped this thing open, and have yet to ascertain why exactly it needs to have this little antenna sticking out of the back. The thing has more than enough room to house the antenna internally.
Long story short, I knocked it over just hard enough to break the antenna off of it's connector, and there is no way that antenna will work again. I contacted Samsung (ya know, since they made the thing) to inquire about buying an antenna. My train of thought: Since it is detachable, there must be an upgradeable antenna, or they thought it might need to be replaced sometime down the road.
WRONG.
After just TWO emails, they basically gave up:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Since I have a bit of technical knowledge on the subject, I was able to find an antenna on the cheap for it. I'm trying to think though... an average customer would totally be pissed about this. They don't ever mention what to look for, or even suggest where.
Just curious as to what people think about this kind of thing. Do you have any horrible tech support stories like this?
