was reading some blog entries by a friend of mine, and in one he touched on something that i resonated with. i'm pretty sure i've written at least a little bit on this subject, but i wanted to go in a specific direction with this entry ( Read more... )

I like Tricky and downtempo/"trip hop" (yes, I know some artists disagree with that categorization) music in general quite a bit. Though I must admit that I find it hard to discern all of the lyrics in many of Tricky's songs.

yeah ... he has a real whispered/raspy thing going on that makes a lot of his stuff hard to make out.

are you familiar with his album "blowback" ? he does some stuff on there with a few of the guys from red hot chili peppers, the singer from live, one with alanis morissette, one with cyndi lauper ... one track with a slowed-down sample from "sweet dreams" by the eurthymics. lotta good stuff on that album. and not really traditional tricky material, at least if you consider his earlier stuff to be his primary sound ... the vibe his albums maxinquaye, pre-millenium tension, and angels with dirty faces are the ones i mostly associate with him. although with his last two, blowback and vulnerable, he's moved in a different direction ... different energy/vibe.
