Chapter Eighteen: The Unlikely Ally

A week ago, all that mattered to Harry was getting his magical powers back, but now that he had them he didn’t feel like there was anything to celebrate. It had taken him three more days to regain full use of his magical abilities, and in that time there had still been no sign the Order was getting ( Read more... )

I've been following your writing a while and I really can't much tell if you like Ron and Hermione together or not. I know that you also write Ron and Hermione and Harry and it seems like you like Hermione and Harry better as a couple. This isn't necessarily a knock on you, but it really becomes apparent in chapters like this. Ron seemed to be trying as best as he could to be a gentle lover, and I think Hermione was out of character in saying that "It wasn't bad." If I were Ron, I'd be angry too ( ... )

I'm definitely not a Harry/Hermione shipper. I also most definitely do not hate Ron. If it comes across that way, well... I don't really know what to say except that's not what I meant.

You're right not to trust Malfoy. He's never done anything unless he gets something out of it.

Okay. I suppose for me, it's just that you are very consistently making Ron kind of a jerk in these sort of scenes and you don't do the same to Harry. I think I have read two of your Harry/Ginny and Ron/Hermione stories. In each case when Harry and Ginny were having sex for the first time, Ginny was ecstatic even when Harry was as "bad" at it as Ron was. It has just been my experience that people who make Ron as inept and cold as he tends to be in your stories don't like Ron, but if you say that you do, then that's that.

I think this is my first time commenting here, so sorry it's not a real "review." But I thought what you said was interesting, even though I don't entirely agree. What I see in these stories is that some relationships are easier than others--some people would take that to be a value judgment, but I don't. An easier relationship isn't better or more worthwhile, it's just different in the way it happens day-to-day. Both in canon and in these stories, I see Harry and Ginny as having an easy relationship without a lot of "meta" discussion about the relationship--once they notice each other, it just happens--and Ron and Hermione as having a relationship that is--well, not easy, in the sense that it seems to require a lot of balancing and negotiation. So while I did see the scene at the end of this chapter as somewhat abrupt, it didn't strike me as OOC.

ohh this was SO good. the mystery just keeps getting better and better, and i love the R/Hr. so sad at the end though. i can see that happening with those two though- their both too stubborn for their own good!

and Harry being so protective of Ginny- *sigh*... oh i cant wait to see what happens!

i love how you maintain such a perfect balance of the story at hand, with the kidnap and the horcrux, along with the dynamics and relationships of the characters.

Harry is always so protective of Ginny. It's probably been killing him not to rush on ahead and rescue her.

Believe me, it's not easy balancing all the relationships, horcruxes, and everything else.

I really enjoyed this chapter. I loved how Hermione said it was "okay", and it pissed Rom off. It's so like her to be upset because she wasn't "in charge", and, of course, his ego was bruised. hehe
I always pictured Malfoy being a semi-unwilling, tail-between-his-legs participant with the Order. This is really different, but I like it! Now I'm not so sure what he'll do in book 7....

I think Ron and Hermione's relastionship is complicated, just because that's how their friendship always was.

Malfoy is definitely the kind of guy who doesn't like to get his hands dirty. I think he'll do whatever he has to do in order to protect himself.

This was brilliant, as always. ^^ I loved Malfoy, and I really like the way you describe his situation and his character. And the later scene with Ron and Hermione was nice, too... Too bad that Ron and Hermione got into another of their fights - but then again, they wouldn't be Ron and Hermione if they didn't fight, ne?

Waiting for the next chapter. ♥ Sorry that my comment was a bit crappy, but my friends are playing Kingdom Hearts next to me so it's a bit hard to concentrate.

LOL, yes it wouldn't be Ron/Hermione if they didn't fight about "everything". I see Malfoy as a coward, who tries to give the outward appearance that he's tough.

Your comment was still great, so don't worry about it.
