Hello, Mr. Carter! Welcome to the Barge. My name is Chromie, I'm a warden here. You should probably know about the floods and ports, that's very useful!

[Who or what in the hell is this chirpy little person? Not that the thought shows on his face.]

Tell me more, [faintest half-breath of a pause] Chromie.

[Oh well, business over niceties. You get all sorts here.]

Now, I'm not sure if you're aware, but this facility is actually a ship. Ports are what happens when it docks, and everyone gets a few days on a random world - yes, there are multiple world represented here.

[In Carter's world, only a certain kind of woman talks like that. Sorry, Parker; he's now got all kinds of wrong ideas of who you are.]

Think I was starting to see that general idea, Miss.

[Carter preens. Almost imperceptibly.]

Douglas Hayward. [As if you're going to know a Mayfair tailor from the 1960s/70s.]

Mm, well, keep it close by. I always appreciate the well dressed. It's so very hard to come by with these people.

[And a chuckle.]

Don't believe what they tell you. This place isn't terrible.

Seems like there might be an opportunity or two if one knows where to look.

And to whom have I the honour of speaking?

...what do you want to know? [ She plays just enough on the "want" for it to stand out, but not imply anything. He's smart enough to check the place out first and put on his best face. Good guy to be friends with, or at least not enemies. ]

[Hello, pretty lady. Carter actually smiles a bit, or at least warms up a little for her.]

Well, you know, all the usual sorts of things a cautious man ought to in a strange place, Miss. What to be wary of.

[ If she had her filters you'd get the closest thing she has to an unvarnished opinion; as it stands she's choosing her words as if she could say more but not right here and now. ]

A little less than usual. You can't die here.

Well, that's a pleasant change from the last place I was at, Miss.

And who might you be?
