I had to work my first funeral today. It was a little creepy..cause they had a showing last night, so this morning when i opened up the sanctuary, there the caskit was, open as well. My boss told me right as I was going to unlock the doors, thank goodness! It was a long day, the six hours I was there just flew by because there was so much to do ( Read more... )

i didn't want to forget to tell you this...
at sherwoods oaks this morning, a woman came to thank the congregation for their prayers over her family and for Gene, who they lost to brain cancer last week. She also mentioned that on the day he died within just a couple hours, there was a birth in the family. and just the timing God chose for Gene's end here on earth & another child's beginning. thought you might want to know...they were given some joy this week.

love you

the funeral home workers for my grandma and grandpa's funeral were the best. They knew of our family (because my grandparent's had lived her for like twenty years) and they did their best to accomodate us, i.e. making coffee, bringing in snacks, etc. That made the difference for me.
Keep up the good work, it may not seem like you make a difference for these people, but just knowing that someone is trying to make things easier on you helps so much.
miss you!

Thanks so much for that! I miss you too. Tell me, when do you leave for Germany? What are your plans like for the summer?

I'm not sure I can really grasp what you're saying... but I'm intrigued by the idea. For me, all death reminds me of loss that I've suffered. It tends to put things into perspective...

I'm coming to Bloomington the week of May 16th. Will you be around?

Hi, Maddie! Yeah, working the funeral did make me think about those I've lost, especially my grandpa who died a little over a year ago. I guess that entry was just about how strange it was to experience people I've never met before's grieving and mourning experiences. It made me thankful I wasn't going through it, it made me feel compassion for them, but i also felt this weird feeling of detachment..like it wasn't real. hmm..i may have muddle things even more..haha..anyway, it was an experience I've never had before. I wish I was gonna be here the 16th! I have to go home to get my wisdom teeth taken out :( But, I'll be here all summer so maybe we can try to hook up sometime then!
