kai + lu han, g, 1,634w
Kim Jongin doesn't know this, but he shares the same train home with the new Chinese trainee.
(
'You go away for five years, and you come back a foreigner,' his mom keeps telling him, voice full of disdain and disappointment. )

I reallyyyy like the way you drew our attention to kai before methodically revealing his identity! that entire narrative passage was so subtle and natural, so easy to imagine we're following lu han's thought process. They are always in the same subway car, because the kid has calculated to get on the car that would stop the closest to the exit, the same way Lu Han has learned to do. - I LOVE THIS OBSERVATION, automatically forging a connection between lu han and kai without even the use of dialogue or introductions. so great.

lol I honestly felt like a creeper looking up Seoul subway map trying to figure out which train they would take to and from SM during their trainee days, but I really believe transportation, moving from one place to the next in the city in your daily life, plays a huge part in your connection with a city and its people. That's also time for a lot of thinking, as well as people-watching. I love the idea of LuKai surreptitiously noticing each other on the train but never speaking, because of the underlying trainee rivalry/apprehension and also people's tendency of treating acquaintances like strangers on the street. (kk knowing where to stand on the platform to board a train also indicates an acute sense of efficiency and familiarity, too. :3)

there's just something about these two that's so complex and it hovers in between simple affection and something more; i can't explain it, but you capture it so well (in this and your other drabble). i love that there's so much here even though they're separated by space and distance, that they're connected already even before they are bandmates and friends
his imagination has him debut in the same boyband with this Jongin kid, both of them dancing on opposite sides of the stage, both their bodies syncing to each other's beat, their eyes bright in the dark.
the fact that jongin makes luhan envision standing on stage and dancing together- it just hits me right there
quietly gorgeous <3

Ugh yes, the LuKai dynamic is something perplexing and and complex for me to figure out (both irl and in fic, haha), so writing them is a very enjoyable challenge. I'm glad the connection forged between them in these drabbles worked for you! ♥
