Supergirl plot bunny free to good hutch(es)

So I was watching the latest ep of Supergirl, and now I have this vision in my head, and noooooo time to write it at the moment:

James has been moonlighting as the Guardian for maybe a few weeks, helping some but obviously still learning. He doesn't always listen to Winn, and he doesn't quite get that Winn has two stakes in the fire--that Winn'd feel responsible for anything that happens to James as the Guardian, James knows, but doesn't really clue in that Winn considers James one of his very few friends ever, and so he cares deeply about James, Kara-rivalry aside, and Winn isn't down with watching his friend/brother get himself killed. James isn't totally wild or immature about it, but he can be reckless. They've kept the secret for a while, though Winn may or may not still think that that's a good idea.

And then James decides to go solo on something, or at least off on his own during a group heroing, despite all of Winn's objections, and he gets himself seriously hurt. Winn finds him, but he isn't going to be able to just patch him up this time, so he makes a decision that he knows might lose him *all* of his friends and his job and basically everything. James wakes up in the infirmary in the DEO, sick and hurting and weak... to find himself surrounded by ticked-off Winn and Alex... and three furious aliens.

(In my own head, I have the scene where he wakes up and realizes where he is and who's there, and that the only people speaking to him at all are Kara and J'onn, who aren't so much speaking as yelling and barking. He also realizes that he'd buried a memory--once, while working at the DP, before he knew Clark's secret, he took a risk for a photo and sustained a minor injury that required stitches and ice, and mild-mannered Clark briefly made Jimmy oddly nervous, just with his eyes, and didn't speak to him for a few days. Jimmy shook off the thought and buried the memory, thinking he was being silly because who would ever be intimidated by Clark Kent? Now James, weak and helpless, has Superman standing over him, arms folded, jaw working, giving James a familiar gut-clenching glare... and James suddenly feels like the little brother who might not live to see another birthday.) If you want that scene, you're welcome to it; I might play with it sometime, but I have so much stuff in my head that I can't keep it all, and I really hope that as many of you as possible get inspired and have fun!
