If you do decide to go with books on tape, do the real, professional audio. Nothing worse than amateurs reading and losing a chapter here and there. You can often get freebies on audible.com

If you like Sarah Vowell's voice, then her recorded books are outstanding. Iodine by Haven Kimmel was great in audioformat, too. Laura and I can give you lots of recommendations, I think.
