HP Umpire Angel Hernandez ejected Padres Manager Bud Black for arguing a called second ball in the top of the 4th inning of the Reds-Padres game. With two out and three on, Reds batter Travis Wood took a 1-2 curveball from Padres pitcher Tim Stauffer for a called second ball. Pitch 4 is what Black was arguing...clearly an incorrect 'ball' call. He wouldn't be arguing a call that went in favour of his team! Challenge.

Angel should take his naps before games, not during. In his first plate job of the year a couple weeks ago in Toronto, he balled a Twin's pitch that had literally split the strike zone. Astonishing at this level.

The pitch seems fairly close, but on video replay the catcher does appear to catch the pitch outside the zone. There are certainly plenty of times that pitch would be called strike.

I haven't watched the whole series. Dick Enberg seemed to indicate that this had building the whole series, while Mark Grant waited til the end to say something. Either way, everyone knows what happens when you argue balls and strikes.

The game recap does make a point of showing Bud Black complaining about earlier pitches.
