Title: Black Ink

Simon still has the letter.

From time to time he will read it, glance his eyes across the carefully placed ink strokes written just for him. He has never had something like this before, which, quite frankly, isn't very shocking. Simon was always the weird kid, although even since he has meet Nathan it has evolved into 'melon fucker' and 'panty sniffer.' The same in essence, although much more hurtful. He never reflects these emotions which is all part of what makes Simon who Simon really is. He is a strange person, one who really does give off the emotion of being some of the titles Nathan spews off, a killer and a freak. He has never received a love letter in high school, let alone the real world outside of it which is what makes Nathan's so special to him.

He'll never be anything more than a freak, but when he's with Nathan he feels a little more human.

He doesn't know if it's just the feeling of being loved by another human being or because Nathan brings out something inside of him, but he feels strange over all of it. It's a good feeling of strange that only Simon could really feel and connect, but it's good to him none the less. Simon hasn't really been loved before --- not since that time in elementary school or the probation worker that probably doesn't even really count because the feeling wasn't mutual, so this feeling of Nathan and him together for what very well be forever due to Nathan's inability to die is something great. He knows that if he wanted, they could be together for as long as Simon lived. Nothing was getting in the way of Nathan being taken off of this earth, so it all relied on them sticking together through the emotional side of the relationship. On nights like this, where Nathan lay comfortably in Simon's bed, shirtless and content, Simon was given a ray of hope to shine in. He realized that he had been missing a relationship all of his life and if missing out on all of the petty highschool girls meant he would be given a boy like Nathan later in life, it was all worth it.

If he wasn't treated how he was in highschool by all of those girls (the jocky boys as well) then maybe he'd grow a bit different. Perhaps he wouldn't have tried to set that house on fire and maybe he'd be an overall better person. Simon will at times reason out the paths he has taken in life and how overall he has gotten to the point he is at now. He doesn't really know how setting a house on fire can get him a boyfriend, nor does he know why he's so thankful he did.

Simon doesn't know if this is true or not, but he thinks about it from time to time. It is never that deep and in depth, but the simple thought of "I really fucked up" dances upon his mind every now and again.

This is the man who has kept a dead body in a freezer, so keeping a letter for a few months really isn't much of a shocker in comparison, however he knew if Nathan were to ever find out he'd laugh at him. The relationship has changed Nathan but that wouldn't stop him from cracking a few jokes at him. That's why it's somewhere in his desk that Nathan wouldn't care to look into. Nathan is unobservant in that sense, or maybe he just doesn't have the will to look for things he doesn't need. Does he even remember the letter? If Simon were anything like Nathan he would tease him senselessly (and maybe even bring upon some sort of restraining order) for the whole tattoo incident, but that is what makes them exact opposites.

And in this case, it is true that opposites attract.
Something about the way Nathan is loud enough for five people and how Simon is reserved just makes them click better than either of them would with anyone else. The way Simon is no where near personable and how Nathan can strike a conversation with a complete stranger out of thin air is what makes them so perfect for one another.

They've learned and grown from one another, mainly Simon learning from Nathan, and from this relationship they've both become different people. Before all of this, Nathan didn't want a relationship and chose to find as many slutty girls willing to shag with him as possible, and before the relationship began for Simon he drank alone and was still a virgin.

However, not a soul could date Nathan and remain a virgin. Not even Simon, and the night he lost it was the single most awkward and amazing experince for the both of them. A stunning revitalizing twinge of rebirth shook his entire body, giving him a new sense of confidence. Simon will never really know exactly how Nathan felt about it, even if he made it clear he was 'going to rock the fuck out of his world' each and every time they did it that night, which is exactly what he did. But Simon can at least assume Nathan enjoyed himself half as much as he did. He had sex with plenty of girls before having sex with Simon was even a rational thought in his mind ----- before he had even met Simon. It probably wasn't as special as Simon thought it would be, but somewhere in his corrupted mind he will always thank Nathan for giving him that blissful night where he gripped onto the white bed sheets and screamed one drunken moan after the next.

But Nathan must have liked something about the sex because they kept having it, and it only became more frequent from that night. And Simon, who couldn't even take care of himself, soon found himself wanting to do nothing more than care for Nathan. He didn't know what it was but while they sweating and pressed together Simon wanted the kisses to last a little bit longer and wanted Nathan to stay in bed next to him after they were both finished. Simon isn't stupid; he knew he was falling in love, he just didn't know how to tackle it. It was a clusterfuck of emotion that he didn't know how to untangle, so Simon did what he always did.
He got really fucking drunk.

Except this time, he got drunk with Nathan. The intoxication fueled a conversation they were both desperate to have, whether they knew it or not. He doesn't exactly remember what he said and Nathan probably doesn't either but the night ended with a type of sex they hadn't yet experienced. It was meaningful; gentle and in consideration for the tender rapture of the other's skin. That was when the two of them knew they were more than fuck buddies, which really didn't change much, but overall the two of them felt better about themselves and that's really what a relaationship is all about.

And that is what how Simon got to where he is now. He's read over Nathan's letter a million times, maybe for comfort or maybe just to make him smile, but tonight he's reading over it just to be sure it hasn't gone anywhere. He stares into the words, knowing that somewhere inside of Nathan he still is as madly in love with Simon as he was back then. He's getting addicted to the feeling of being in love and Simon knows that's not a good thing, but he doesn't know how to stop and even if he did he probably would choose not to do so.

"If you open your heart I know we could have something really beautiful.

Yours forever,

Nathan. x"

The voice in his head reading off these words is the same as the one that he read it off months ago, but now he gives it a whole new appreciation. Simon's eyes are distant, gleaming into the abyss of blank ink that has faded a bit over time as if it will give him the answer to the questions he has made in his head. Simon is sure to place the letter back into the drawer in the exact spot in a mechanical sense before returning back to his bedroom, careful not to step on the spots on the floorboards he knows creak.
But he's only taking that much care not to disturb the silence hanging in the house for one reason.

He isn't alone, and the only other person who would be in Simon's house is Nathan, shirtless (and could very well be lacking pants as well) in his bed, bundled in a state of euphoria. His thick eyelashes cast a sense of comfort upon his entire relaxed countenance, reassuring Simon that Nathan isn't going to leave him alone while he stares at him for a moment, sleeping and warm beneath the sheets he sleeps under.
All of this washes him out, makes him realize that his perfection and beauty is only a few feet from him and he has wrapped his body around Nathan's once before so he would be allowed to do so without a problem tonight.

The last thing Simon remembers before drifting into sleep is planting a kiss on Nathan's ear, then nuzzling into a warm he hasn't felt before from Nathan.
