So at about two o'clock on Friday I accepted a job--a great job, a dream job, a hooray-I-get-to-work-in-the-industry-I-want job--at Penn Press. After that I pretty much stopped answering my phone, because I was driving and socializing and eating cherries ( Read more... )

Congratulations!
(How odd that I should check this today for the first time in weeks and stumble upon such wonderful news.) Both my parents went to school in Philly (my mother at Penn) so I have it on good authority that it's a wonderful city. What will you be doing at Penn Press?
I'm going to be home for a month as of Saturday. If you're around, perhaps we could meet for lunch sometime and catch up. Life has been eventful of late.
Until soon,

I know, way to go me! The odd continuation of the story I posted here is that today I got another message from the woman at Oxford, telling me not only that she got my "you called half an hour too late!" message but that she wanted to talk to me anyway. So I guess I'll call her tomorrow, maybe right after I mail in my official signed letter of acceptance for Penn.

I'm going to be in the Acquisitions department at the press, assisting two of their senior editors (possibly the editor-in-chief, actually) and dealing with authors and preparing manuscripts and getting lots of free books and generally being in love with my whole entire life. Hooray.

I will be around next week. Not on Saturday or Sunday, but after that. Let me know what you are up to. I am pretty much not doing anything next week except, I don't know, packing.

I'm looking forward to hearing the whole story, and others too, sometime in the coming week. Not exactly sure when but I may be out of town toward the end of the week, so early- to mid-week is ideal. Otherwise relatively flexible. It's been a too long, and I'm feeling remarkably banterless of late.
