Piggy things

There is only going to be one little guinea pig having a holiday. When I got up this morning, Lucia didn't come running over for his breakfast, and when I stroked him to wake him up, he barely moved. It turns out he had a stomach tumour, and it had just got too big. The vet was really nice, and explained that it is very common, and that was nothing ( Read more... )

Well no there's nothing you could have done, you wouldn't notice a stomach tumour until it caused a blockage or whatever by which time chances are it would involve removal of too much stomach, and even if you noticed when it was really small (presumably this would involve ultrasound for no reason whatsoever) stomach tumours (in other species anyway) tend to require removal of a full thickness section of the stomach and this would probably cause big problems for something so small, also the blood loss involved in surgery would be a big problem in something that can only afford to loose a few mls, and it would cost over £100 so not many vets would consider themselves well practiced at such a proceedure, there are no chemotherapy protocols for G Pigs in common useage and i doubt there has been enough research in to Pig stomach tumours to be able to work out what sort of tumour it is and therefore what it would respond to anyway ( ... )

*Hugs*

There's no shame in feeling upset about it either.

Aww, much hugs to you. G pigs are funny critters and when they get ill there never seems much you can do to help them. :( I'm sure Lucia had an awesome life with you. :)

Condolences on the death of piggy; that's small furry creatures for you: they don't live very long. I myself keep sort of expecting that my Pest will drop dead when I'm not looking, what with the old age (for a rat) and that tumour thingy on her leg.
Sure, will swap remaining pig for sewing machine. By Sunday do you mean this Sunday, the 9th, or the next one? If the former, I'll be at the parents' until the evening, so call us first, but I expect other people will be around to let you in.
If I'm not there, then the sewing machine is in the white cardboard box by the bookcase in my room, I hope you two get on well.
