Wholeheartly agree re Scots/American thing. I've been holding off posting comments on acquaintances facebooks when their status is something like "I am disgusted that we reward murder by.....what does this say to terrorists?"

What it says to terrorists is "We even treat people who try to kill us with humanity and compassion. What have you got?"

I agree that the treatment of Semenya is appalling. I do think there is a need to test - when sex tests were introduced everyone passed....after several atheletes from Eastern Europe withdrew from competition.

Atheletes are tested for a lot of things that would give them an unfair advantage, because too many of them are tempted. Drugs, blood doping, and yes, entering events your sex should prevent you from entering. Boxers are weighed before each fight.

The nice way to do it would be to quietly tell her that they needed to test, quietly test, and say no more about it when she is proved to be female, save to quickly snuff any hint of the persucution she's undergoing now.

That's my thought's too. I know the ASA had already started testing her, but the tests take a while to come though, I just don't think the IAAF should have made the announcement. If someone is drug tested its not broadcast unless and until both samples have come back positive, so why should this girl be treated any differently?
