I keep realising that I'm turning 30 next year, I was in denial for a long time, and now I've realised its too late to do a list like
daydreamweaver , so I've decided I'm going to have a mid-life crisis instead.
Before I turn 31 I will have passed my CBT and bought a motorbike. There are several good reasons for doing this, beyond teenage rebellion:
It will take

As for bikes, it's something I've contemplated myself - two real reasons I've not come down to lack of storage space in them (imagine carting larp weapons!) and that they're much less safe than a car!

I agree that the larp front will still be a problem, but not any worse than not having any transport at all :oP
The safety is the only thing that worries me slightly, but I know more people who have died in car crashes than bike accidents. I'll only be using it for commuting until I get some confidence anyway.
The main reason is the parking. With a car I'd struggle to park at home, and I'm unlikely to get a permit at work. With a bike, I can put it in the front garden, and I won't need a permit at work...

One thing I'd note is that drivers have no time for bikers. They -will- ignore you and cut you up...

With my family histories, I'm looking at about 35, maybe 37 at a stretch. I thought I should start early to make sure I get it all in.

First, turning 30 is no big deal. Wait until you hit 40 or 50 to freak out.
Secondly, as a former biker, I strongly suggest that you get the biggest, baddest bike you can afford. See, eventually, you'll trade up to one of the big boys, so just save yourself time.

I have to admit that I'm looking forward to 70 (if I make it), because I should be able to retire by then *touch wood*, and looking at my family I'll be compos mentis enough to enjoy it :o)
With the bike, I'll have to start on a 125 as that is the highest you can drive on L plates. Once I pass my test I'll be looking for something bigger, but I have to admit I'm a bit scared of the really big ones, cos I'm only 5'5"! My MiL is an ex instructor, so I'm hoping she'll be able to give me some tips for the tests.

One thing I'd say about bikes is that my ickle sis used to have a 125 and loved it. The only down side was when it fell over she had to get other people (read big burly men) to pick the thing up! So check it out. That and get as much bright clothing as you can - bikers may look cool in black, but it's a b*gger to see in them in the night, even on well lit roads.
