I'm feeling a bit stupid. I signed up on facebook.com and myspace.com (and i never check them...), but for reasons that I find weird. I just want to find out what happened to one of my buds from film class, but i swear, i must be getting his last name wrong. ok, this is a disturbing question to ask, but does anyone know a way of finding a person (w ( Read more... )

Don't worry hon. There are plenty of entries I don't get comments on. It's okay. Good luck on your finals! I just had one at 10 and I'm still up here at school because I have another at 1.

haha, i know! i used to get all in a fluster because no one would comment (this was when i first started my lj). sometimes it's nice to just know that your journal is still being read though, or that people have been scanning your journal occassionally.

and thanks! i hope hope HOPE i did ok. I think I did badly on my art history final, because I didn't realize we were going to do both the written part and slide part of the exam that day. silly karen. but we had like 5 other tests, and on 4 of them i got A-, A+, A, and maybe A+ and on one I got a C-, so I think I'll be ok. I still am perplexed about how I got those As, lol.

Do well on your exam! Although I think it's already started for you? I dunno, because it's 1:15 PM here.

You're a great friend. <3

Experts in ancient Greek culture say that people back then didn’t see their thoughts as belonging to them. When ancient Greeks had a thought, it occurred to them as a god or goddess giving an order. Apollo was telling them to be brave. Athena was telling them to fall in love. -- Now people hear a commercial for sour cream potato chips and rush out to buy, but now they call this free will. -- At least the ancient Greeks were being honest.

That's just fascinating. I never knew that. I love ancient cultures. But what exactly were they being honest about? That they believed they had no thoughts of their own? Hmmm. Perhaps I just answered my question.

Well! Lullaby is all about how society controls us and manipulates the way we think and act, how people nowadays are always latched to their computers, T.V.s, radios, anything that will keep them "zoned in," anything that will block out what is actually happening in their lives.

So, "no true thoughts of their own" or "no true Will of their own" are good summarizations, yes. :)

It's a really great book, and the plot-line that covers up this between-the-lines moral is really twisted and Chuck Palahniuk is awesome all-around. :)

Wow. That sounds like something interesting to read. I will definitely check it out. Ok, I am writing it down right now, otherwise I'll forget.

Perhaps I'm just confusing myself, and should read it and then try to think on it. :)

Random moment here: do you read Terry Pratchett books?

hehe, yes, but at least I responded. I don't know why, I just always have to respond to comments because I feel that it shows that I read the comment and appreciated it.
