Mom was going to toss a bunch of photos. As my generation's genealogist, I asked for whatever was left. Now I need to get a scanner that's better than the junker we have now. Socio-technical design
I read an interesting (possibly seminal) paper on socio-technical design of systems. It combines sociology with design constraints on software and systems. It helped me to clarify some of the ideas I have been wrestling with on authentication and identification in the new design I am working on.

Cold (viral) GRRR
Cindy unfortunately brought back a virus from her visit to Ben's school. I managed to acquire it from her despite our best efforts. Last weekend was pretty bad - coughing and sneezing until my ribs and diaphragm hurt. Sleeping upright in the recliner. Chills and hot spells at random intervals. Cindy and I had a calendar miscommunication, which is why I was not at Björklunden with her. I dearly love our time up there, but I had made promises to our congregation.

voting
The faces of the poll workers lit up as I walked into the polling place. In contrast to the last election cycle where I was #61 and the line behind me was long; in this case I walked in 2 minutes after poll opening time and I was #1. As I voted and walked out, they thanked me for voting. I consider it a responsibility as well as a right. -
Conference on the College Male
I'm at St. John's University where Ben goes, attending the Sixth Annual Conference on the College Male: Best practices for Involving College Men.. Ben has classes and work this afternoon, so he can't come to today's part of the conference. Our friend Mike who lives nearby will also come to some of the sessions and join us for some meals.

We had a fine evening of music last night. The monthly Green Apple Folk Music Society concert this time was a very new group of GA members still jelling as a group as the opener (not sure of the group name, yet). An eclectic mix of songs written by them and covers of folk classics.

Eagles!
I'm on a business trip to Iowa this week. As we came out of Dubuque heading west, there were 30-50 bald eagles in a corn field! I didn't know eagles could be omnivorous, or perhaps there were mice feeding. It was an amazing sight.. -
