I'm kind of surprised by this but then I hate Battle Royale but loved the Hunger Games, obviously or I wouldn't have based one of my Bangs on it.
I really did relate to Katniss. I thought the stuff with Gale seemed forced because he never read as more than a friend to me and it was obvious she liked Peeta better. I'm not bothering with the other two books but I thought as a stand-alone story the Hunger Games provided an excellent female protagonist and an interesting setting.
I liked Katniss. She was one that I loved out of the entire book. She's a good female protagonist but it irks me that in matters of feelings and after the Games, that she goes back and listens to Haymitch. To me, it seemed to weaken her independence. I'm hoping that she stays independent as she was made out to be for the majority of this one, for the other books but honestly it seems like the author really wanted that love triangle no matter what
( ... )
I thought it was obvious she liked Peeta and that they were always going to end up together so the love triangle aspect did feel incredibly forced. I can see why it was set up but the books IMO don't need it.
There's a great world and a fantastic story to tell about overthrowing an evil government that doesn't need who Katniss fancies getting in the way of. Love triangles bore me in general so that's why I'm staying away from the next two books as I hear it gets more pronounced. Also, the guy I based Dean's story arch on doesn't have a happy ending.
I'm so, so glad. I like hearing you say lovely things about it. I kind of favor my story over the source material too although I feel I'm really forgiving to my characters. A couple more made it out then were supposed to.
I havenn't read the books, just seen the movies, and I know some people say HG is different from BR, but to me it's not. More happens before the killing actually starts, but then it's very close and definitely not up to BR.
