I did an exercise in Awaken the Giant Within about creating goals for yourself and milestones along the way. It was a very long but exciting exercise because for the first time I see that long term goals are in fact just a collection of smaller goals.
Goals and Milestones
1. Win an Oscar (Fifteen Years)
- Become well known in my field of work (Ten Years)
- Be the owner of a production company (Five Years)
- Attend the Cannes Film Festival (Three Years)
- Attend the Toronto Film Festival (Two Years)
- Direct my own movie (Two Years)
- Act in an independent film (Two Years)
- Meet George Romero (One Year)
- Write a movie script (six months)
2. Retire by the age of 50
- Have enough money to send my children to university (Fifteen Years)
- Have my own island (Eight Years)
- Enough money to let Mandi stay home (Eight Years)
- Earn $70,000 in a year (Five Years)
- Visit Europe (Three Years)
3. Be content with my family/social life (Thirty Years)
- Have enough money to send my children to university (Fifteen Years)
- Adopt a child (Thirteen Years)
- Start to have children (Ten Years)
- Get married to Mandi (Five Years)
- Have a wonderful group of friends (Two Years)
- Buy a dog (Two Years)
- Find an RPG group (One Year)
4. Run a triathlon (Five Years)
- Learn to swim (Three Years)
- Cut caffine /alchol out of my life (One Year)
- Have a body that I can be proud of (One Year)
- Join the gym and go at least three times a week (One Year)
- Become vegan (One Year)
- Start a successful diet (One Year)
5. Have a shelter that helps runaways (Twenty Years)
- Give someone a chance at life (Fifteen Years)
