This person clearly has always possessed an inadequate toolbox if he believes that most solutions to problems solve nothing... that's the anti-definition of "solution".
My toolbox on the other hand, is full of awesome, and efficiently solves most problems thrown at it ;).
Well, in this context, the tools don't solve the problem, the person behind them does. How many times have you seen someone use a hammer for something it wasn't intended for, still solving the problem presented? While I don't doubt your toolbox is full of awesome, I also fully expect that it's you, and not the tools doing the solving.
This is actually an adaptation of a conversation I was having about politics and violence with Nadia. What's interesting is that it seems to apply to the mentality most of us take regarding tools- that we can have one for everything, and they're a solution... when in many cases they cause their own problems (the automobile is a good example of this, so are Direct Action campaigns by environmental movements, and black block activities at protests).
