I was reading this piece,  among many, about the upcoming season 2 of Hawaii Five-0, and I'm both excited and filled with dread at the prospect.

By and large I loved season one -- there were a few things (particularly the finale) that annoyed the crap out of me, but nothing is ever perfect. However, the buzz surrounding the new season makes me ( Read more... )

Sadly, I lost interest in H-50 only six or so episodes into the first season. I wanted to love it (was a fan of the original when I was a kid, watching re-runs on a local station with my great-uncles), and I adore Alex O'Loughlin. But the shows seemed so repetitive with no engaging arc to keep me coming back week after week. I guess I prefer series with long-reaching arcs rather than series than lean toward the episodic.

What you described, though, is the quickest way to turn me off from a show, and the reason why I am loving "Haven" on SyFy so much. They haven't (at least not yet, and we are well into season 2) tried to force the main characters together (a male small-town cop, female is former FBI and now his cop partner) In fact, they just introduced another male character in a fantastically quirky way that fits the show, setting him up to be the main gal's love interest. I'm not sure if you are getting that show over there, but if you do, I highly recommend it.

We're waiting for season 2 of Haven -- I really enjoyed the first season.

There was a show on a few years ago -- Murder One with Daniel Benzali, I believe. That was a long arc and well enough written to keep the watcher engaged. I really liked that, but other shows with long arcs have disappointed in that the final pay-off wasn't worth the wait (IMHO Lost).
