RAGE is RAGEY

I don't usually post anything about Moffat's Doctor Who, because I know some people on my f-list like his work, and I wouldn't want them to think my dislike of Moffat translated to a dislike of them and their personal tastes. BUT I have so much RAGE for this promo picture:

The Daleks AGAIN!? Well, at least they aren't color-coded like a bunch of iPods this time EWWW

We just need an eagle bursting out of an American flag and a car chase to complete this image.

I don't have as much of a history with Doctor Who since I only started from the Christopher Eccleston series, and I am mostly just looking for entertainment for entertainment's sake when it comes to the series, but this is a bit much even for me. Yikes!

Ah yes, the "M and M" or "Skittles" Daleks were laughably bad. :p

There are a lot of American shows that I already watch that feature the explosions and whatnot. One of the things I loved about Doctor Who was how different it was from anything on American television, and now here it is acting like it belongs on CBS, not BBC. pfft

You know I am no huge fan of Amy Pond, but wth? This shot makes her look more helpless and annoying than Susan and Dodo combined.

As for the Daleks, we all knew that was coming. They've been in every series since the beginning, but what's up with the explosions? Have they all become huge land mines or what.

Sad, Moffat, sad. I'm not even a feminist, but I find this picture extremely offensive and insulting to every female companion the Doctor has ever had.

I'm hardly the biggest Amy fan either (though Rory loves her, so I know she's gotta have an awesome side to her), but this photo is just sooooo annoying and cliched.

Amen to this post. So well put about how I feel about the Moffat Who. All fanfare and spectacle but no soul and no British cracktasticness.

incredible warmth and emphasis on character development
I miss that. I miss RTD Who :(

I feel so badly that I've finally succumbed to bashing Moffat's Who. I don't like being a hater. It's such a waste of energy, and I've been trying to find the positive since Moffat took over (like Rory and certain standalone episodes). But this was just one step too far, even for me. I think I exploded like one of those Daleks. -_-

I've always embraced by hate for Moffat as a person and showrunner and writer so I don't feel bad. I don't hate on the whole series because it's not all on Moffat, I even liked some episodes written not by him, but I roll eyes a lot and I completely distanced myself, I watch DW like a casual viewer now, I don't even see it as the same show I fell in love with when I watched s1 in 2006, and I can't wait for Moffat to finally step down. Maybe we'll get OUR Who back then...

Ugh, yeah, the trailer was like some Hollywood movie type, all BIG. SPECTACLE. THE MORE THE MERRIER. SCALE MATTERS. Meh.

Sigh. Yeah, pretty much all this. Ugh, ugh, ugh. And I hate it because I actually LOVE Matt Smith. You can tell in moments in between and in the better written (non-Moffat-y) episodes -- when I watched it, I've stopped -- that he intrinsically GETS the Doctor. Alas, he's clearly bitten into Moffat's horrible womanizing, great big hero version of the Doctor. It's just ... ugh, my big fear is that Moffat would destroy and take away everything that made Who so special. And that's exactly what he has done.

I agree. I think ALL of the actors do infinitely better when it's not Moffat's material. Except Arthur Darvill, who's amazing no matter what script he's given, but I'm kinda biased with my Rory-love. ;)

For what it's worth, my tumblr dash is pretty filled with reactions to this picture that range from annoyed to rage-ified to "I don't even have the energy to be pissed off anymore."

The thing that is really weird to me is that I know the premiere has Daleks in it, but the Ponds don't have their oh-so-emotional, we-swear-it-will-make-you-weep, actual-final-for-real-this-time departure until midway through the season. So if this picture corresponds to the premiere, then... we already know Amy's fine. Unless the premiere has Daleks and then the mid-season finale also has Daleks or something, this promo picture is clearly not supposed to make us worry about Amy. Which means it's just there to be a ~dramatic picture~ of the Doctor carrying an unconscious Amy.

I wouldn't want to go back to the days of RTD, but I'm definitely ready to move past the days of Moffat. MARK GATISS, WE NEED YOU TO STAGE A COUP.

That said, I'm not sure that this is entirely an attempt to lure in more American viewers; after RTD did his bigger and BIGGER and ( ... )

I didn't even think of that! Good grief.

I don't believe that RTD was above reproach (Aliens of London still makes me cringe). I just know that in the midst of those moments of OMG! The Earth/Universe/Reality is in peril, there were also moments of tenderness and great character growth. Something that I find lacking in Moffat's explosive Who.
