You'll notice that they are trimmed in bias tape.  Lots and lots of bias tape.  On my pattern even the pockets are trimmed in bias tape.

I don't like applying bias tape.  It never goes well.

I make my own bias tape when I use it, and I always hand stitch it, at least the second part.

Seriously, I don't think it's possible to machine a decent bias tape edge. Maybe the back half, but not the front half. I also don't fold in half until I've got the back half down. That lets me ease as I iron over.
