How come my knitting looks like bumps and weaves, and yours looks like neat little V's? Is it a different stitch?

Technically we're both using just knit stitch, but because you're going back and forth and I'm knitting in circles, you get the bumps and weaves and I get the v's.
If you wanted to get the v's you'd have to use a different stitch, call the purl stitch, every other row. This would make a right side and a wrong side, kind of like clothing. And then you'd have v's on one side and bumps on the other.
But it's a lot easier to make a square out of just the knit stitch. It stayed flatter and more square, and it's easier to sew into the blanket.
