If you thought the right-wing was already coming unglued, you're going to be utterly shocked by their conduct over the home stretch. They're utterly desperate now, and there's nothing more dangerous than a political party in desperation. We'll probably be seeing more campaign workers getting attacked, more blatantly bullshit robocalls, more Read more... )

This is the first presidential election for me that hasn't been between a giant douche and a turd sandwich. I'm excited.

Yeah, I feel exactly the same way. I was never enthusiastic about Kerry, I just supported him because he wasn't Bush. I certainly don't believe Obama's going to bring radical change, but he's definitely going to shake things up, and that's exactly what this country needs at this point.

I don't think that the attacks on Powell are going to stick either -- he's just too well-respected by too much of the population regardless of race or party for that to work -- and I hope it ends up backfiring on them in a major way. Case in point: my mother, who is a life-long Republican, albeit a rational one rather than a wingnut, was excited to hear about Powell's endorsement. She's voting for Obama this year, thanks in part to McCain being scary and Palin... well, let me just say that she doesn't have a shortage of unpleasant things to say about her.

The GOP needs to have their collective asses handed to them at the polls; they'll only end their hateful rhetoric if they have to choose between it and lasting political obscurity. I was iffy about the "crush them" language before (although I agreed with the goal), but given their antics of late, it's completely appropriate.
