The usual mishmash of an update

Oct 29, 2008 10:22

I've been quiet on here for awhile because I have been working so damn hard, not just when Charlie's at nursery, but late into every night. Of course, if I managed to do a bit more teaching prep BEFORE the start of term, I wouldn't flail so much once term actually started... but never mind. My teaching hours are flexible in number, depending on how ( Read more... )

Thanks for confirming my own impression; it's nice to have validation!

The 1 or 5 to Blackbird Leys will be the closest thing, I think - you need to go nearly the whole way around the estate until you come to the end of Pegasus Road, just before Knights Road. The stadium (next to Jambinos) is visible from there. The alternative is the Greater Leys bus (12) but I don't know where they stop in relation to Grenoble Rd/the entertainment complex. Map.

If you cycle, you can cross the bypass at Barns Road without much hassle, but you still need to navigate Blackbird Leys and/or Greater Leys after that.

To add; you can walk through from the end of Knights Road, near Kestrel Crescent, to the best of my knowledge, but I don't know how dry the path is, currently.

Thank you for this - I love you!

I had more or less decided to go with a Blackbird Leys bus but it's a relief to have someone confirm what I should do when I get off at the stop. I kept oscillating between busing it or trying to cycle, but I think it's more reasonable to go for the bus. We'll be too tired at the end of the party to deal with a long cycle trip in the cold air.

You're welcome. :)

Giving directions distracts me from YA week at home with smallclanger, who picked the week before half-term to develop a nasty GI bug... Typical!

Your teaching schedule reminds me of when I used to teach English one-to-one to Finnish engineers one after the other for 45 minutes each, seven of them a day. I used to so long for them to cancel.

Sympathy on the work/childcare nightmare.

I hate parties at bouncy-activity places. Your small child disappears into a huge plastic cage from which children emerge down slides on all sides so you haven't a clue where they've gone or where they are going to come out, and you always end up having to crawl up ladders and through tunnels to rescue them when they've got stuck because their legs are too short. Have fun!

Ugh to the seven sessions of Finnish engineers. I taught English to French businessmen in Paris for awhile and it was fairly soul-destroying.

All your words about the bouncy-activity place came true. It was one of the most exhausting afternoons I've ever spent. On the other hand, my kid adored it.

Wow, that's an awful teaching load! 9 hours does sound more doable!

I get a kick out of the fact that I have read most of those texts (albeit in translation) :D

I didn't realize you had a penchant for medieval and Renaissance lit - go you!

I read them in school. Comparative Literature, with an emphasis in Euro lit, because that's what all my Profs were into. Mostly.

Now, don't ask if I remember all of it ;-)
