Between you and me and LJ, when I first heard of our new president, it was on WBEZ, Chicago's NPR station. It was 2001, and he was being interviewed as one of the potential hopefuls in the democratic primary for an Illinois senate seat (the other going, naturally, to Dick Durbin, as always). I listened to him, and liked his answers, and thought to myself, with a name like that, I can't see him going far in national politics.

Damn was I wrong. Thank God.
