Umm, looks like W9 is for contractors and such so I dont' have much direct experience, but can ask my mom if she remembers much about it.
Basically, it will depend on the amount of money you made on whether you owe taxes or not. There's a minimum limit and then there's an issue of whether you are filing independent or as a dependent depending on how you file your financial aid forms.
well, it was 300 bucks a week. Stupidly, I deleted the invoice file when I reformatted my comp last year. Since I was let go in like the first week of April and really never heard from them again.
It was close to 4,000 made total (half of the money paid the computer, camera and flight to costa rica for two in April). I don't recall exactly what week it was, second or the first. And I think I started working on the second week of Jan.
Probably check w/ tax people, but if you file dependent on financial aid, you should probably file dependent on taxes -- i'll check w/ my mom too.
4000 is probably pushing the limits of nontaxable income. When you send/deliver the W-9, you can ask them to reprint the invoice or to give you a final check w/ your total net earnings on it. Did they take any taxes out of it at all? They really should have done a better job of explaining the tax stuff to you or the school should have. Check w/ starbuck too-she's probably in the same boat.
Umm, I don't have tax people. Starbuck is going to check with her folks--see what they suggest.
I never filed for taxes, since I really never had a job, just this one. And yeah, they never took anything out. Or they never sent us a last invoice or final check with the total of net earnings. They said we would take a two week break, and then after that break they let us know via e-mail, hey we're not going to need you any more. And that was that.
And yeah, they should've. But I guess it was easier to take advantage of clueless students. And the school, pish.......forget it. I guess the Business of Graphic Design class would've been helpful then more so than now. lolz. Not.
It's around 4,000, or 3,900. give or take. I really need to pinpoint when I started working there. And see if I can find copy of the invoices we would give to them. Frak, frak.
