When the next game rolls around, Elena is sick with a cold, cocooned so deeply within his (her) sweatshirt all that is visible is her hair and red nose. He chuckles at the sight of her and hands her a steaming mug of tea, which soothes her raw throat. Halfway through the game, she is suddenly exhausted and the effort it takes to remain upright is more than she can bear. Alaric senses this and, before she is fully aware, she is now lying with her head on a pillow in his lap, his fingers petting her hair in a lulling rhythm ( ... )

I am blaming you one-hundred percent for my interest in this pairing :P aljhdskhds, I love this, it's so sweet, and Elena trying to compartmentalize everything, figure out what he is, they really do have such a complicated relationship, so many different ones really, and this was just so great.

Tis a pretty successful mission, I'd say, haha, producing some real results seeing as Elena/Alaric are tied with Katherine/Elena as having the most fills written for them in this ficathon so far ;D

Through the whole thing, I was wondering if it was going to get shippy or remain neutral, and I have to say, I absolutely adored the ending. It was just...so, so perfect.

I love Elena's confusion throughout and the revelation that she's not alone in both her confusion and her attraction.

When I first started writing it, I wasn't sure if it was going to go shippy or stay neutral, but I figured that both Elena and Alaric are too noble to ever screw over Jenna so they'd do the honorable thing even if they didn't like it.

I'm not an Alaric/Elena lover at all but you may have just made me one. Woooow. You had me *convinced*!! Well played. You really tip toed into that which helped me get comfortable with the idea as Elena slowly got comfortable in Ric's presence. The fact that these two have all of these confusing connections without actually having one makes their relationship interesting and you were able to actually forge a *personal* connection between them (not through other people) that had me buying into this start-of-a-romance you had going on. Both Alaric and Elena are two people with a hell of a lot of drama going on in their lives (anyone say vampires?) and both looking for some normalcy. That was already well known about them. You used this bit of information to tie them together. And I love that it was something as basic as watching a game. How...normal lol. I want to read more. Continuing piece?

I am slowly working to make everyone an Alaric/Elena lover. Their completely weird connections to each other and just the familiarity they always have when they're on-screen makes me think (in my crazy shipping brain) that they have a deeper relationship than what we get to see.

I might actually continue this one. I'm working on a full-length Alaric/Elena story, but I think I might turn this ficlet into a series of vignettes.
