This is GORGEOUS. I think you totally nailed Elena's inner voice. Her denial that there is anything really wrong, and that she can fix Stefan.

The way that Stefan reacts to finding her in the closet?
He'll let her heart beat for them both, he thinks, wildly.

(Hasn't that always been the case?)
IS SO GOOD.

Basically, I think this is great. Martyr complex FTW!

Thank you! That means a lot, I've been really interested by Elena's whole perspective this season, and I'm so glad it came across well :)

aljldsljd, thanks for such a lovely comment! ♥

Gosh, me too. I often have problems with the way that Elena is always trying to save others and I'm really glad to see her growing up and accepting that sometimes people just don't want to be saved. I find fierce!Elena to be my favourite type. And I'm glad to see her cropping up in fic!

Mhmmm, I really like how she's evolving and accepting that maybe she can't save everyone. I think a lot of her efforts can be seen as motivated but a sense of survivor's guilt that sort of twisted into the ~martyr complex~ but I like that she's growing because I think it's a natural, slow acceptance, and definitely really important for her. And yes, fierce!Elena is the best! :)

I really loved this. Stefan is so hard for me to write, but I think you've captured him perfectly here. I love that Elena is in denial and I love that Stefan is trying to pretend she doesn't exist. I think it speaks volumes about their relationship (and why I love them so much).

Thank you so much, that means a ton ♥ And I'm glad their respective perspectives (lol WOW, rhyme much) worked for you, I've been really interested in the dynamic shift this season.

Me too! I'm bummed about the hiatus because I really want to see Stefan outside of Klaus' compulsion.

I'm off to read more of your fic. I see you write for GoT...there goes my afternoon. =)

Yeeeeees, I am SO excited for that, oh gosh. I love how now it's in his hands to choose how to let it back in and the fact that it's not an instant decision, it's something he seriously has to struggle with.

And aha, yes, I do! Not that much and somewhat random stuff, ha, but hopefully something strikes your fancy, lol :)

YES. You captured both of them so well. And, as always, your language is so pretty:

He sees her in the closet and thinks he has been pushed to hallucination; he is not so good at not-imagining her after all.

She smiles. Smiles against a backdrop of every person he's ever killed, and Stefan nearly gives it all away, would take her in her arms just for the reassurance of tangibility, just to feel.

GAH. a;ldifjl;sdkjfl

Maybe he should have warned her. He doesn't need saving from Klaus. Only himself, and she can't do that. She can't piece him back together like one of his victims, even if that's what he is.

(Or maybe she could, and that's why he told her to leave; he tells himself it lies only in hands, and he's not capable of saving himself either, but - at this point -

He's not sure he would, anyway.)The ending is so perfect. The relationship between these two fascinates me to no end these days. I like the way you (subtly) stressed the timeline: Elena only knew him for one school year. And she met him right after world ( ... )

THANK YOU! ♥ Oh gosh, I am so glad you enjoyed it, and that it worked for you, I've never written these two before so I was kinda nervous about getting the dynamic wrong.

Thank you for the lovely comments, seriously. I've been really fascinated by their relationship lately too, how much it's changed and what that means for them individually.

Elena only knew him for one school year. And she met him right after world collapsed. I think they both sort-of hid from their problems and fears in the goodness the other saw in them.

Just quoting all of that because YES, I agree so much, and I think that so many people tend to forget just how little time it has been, and how much circumstances have changed. And I think that is a really crucial aspect of their relationship right there. Stefan was a way for Elena to be happy, he was something light, he gave her hope after tragedy, and that was their foundation.

OH MY GOD

THIS IS AMAZING

I WANT TO MARRY AND HAVE BABIES WITH THIS FIC

Favourite part? Stefan's POV on finding Elena smiling at him in the cupboard where the list of his victims is on the wall behind her. FAVOURITE SCENE FOREVER and you somehow managed to make it even eerier/darker.
