[ST fic] Embarrassing Moments - Jim/Bones

Jan 12, 2011 22:05

This is part of the Communique universe and was inspired by THESE images from jim_and_bones. You'll have to be a member in order to see the images, but it's open membership. Also, if you haven't read Communique, a Star Trek: AOS epistle fic I recommend doing so. It's fully of humor Jim/Bones and Sulu/Chekov...

It was sweltering hot, temperatures that rivaled those sun Jim was sure of it. No place on Earth had a right to be so incredibly hot and humid all at the same time. Luckily, the environmental controls inside the house kept the temperature pleasant and offered an enjoyable place for afternoon iced tea and conversation. Jim could honestly say when his ship was ready to depart on it's first mission, he was going to miss being able to slip off to Georgia for no other reason than it was Friday and he wanted to.

Bones was sitting across from his mother and Jim, with a large box of pictures and several photo albums open between them. It never failed, whenever Jim would visit Georgia Ella Mae McCoy took great pleasure in breaking out the old photographs. It was embarrassing, which is, naturally, why Jim loved it. There were ones of Bones at age 2 when he was potty training, naked with a training potty on his head; ones during his "Long Hair" phase where he apparently was channeling his inner hippie (Jim had laughed for about 20 minutes over that one); and let's not forget ones of him in high school when his taste in clothing was questionable at most.

Jim sat laughing on the couch, sitting next to Ella Mae while Bones glowered across from them sipping his iced tea and silently promising Jim's next physical will not be enjoyable. Jim just smiled at him even bigger as Ella Mae grabbed the next album.

"Now this one," she said as she opened to the first picture of a little boy muddy from head to toe grinning up at the camera with a few teeth missing, "took some time before I was able to get it."

Jim looked at it, and recognized it as an image of him, off world, one of the many times his mother took him and Sam with her, before she remarried. He glanced over at Bones to see his partner sit up a little straighter and take a bigger interest in the proceedings than he had been.

"So this is Jim?" Bones asked, glee in his voice. "How'd you get the album?"

Ella Mae smirked as she flipped to another image, this time of Jim and Sam standing at what looked like a zoo, still off world. "I called Jim's brother in Colorado, wonderful man, and he was completely happy to dig up an old album." Her voice also held a bit of glee to it that Jim didn't like.

"Sam sent you this!?" Jim asked, scowling, "how'd he get it?" This wasn't in any way playing fair. Jim was supposed to have tons of blackmail material on Bones, not the other way around.

"Apparently when your Mom moved to Mars, Sam took a few of the albums." Ella Mae continued flipping, laughing with Bones at the adorable images of Jim through the ages until she stopped one one of Jim in a black tank top.

Jim scowled, Bones laughed and moved to sit beside his mother. "I love the hair, Jim," Bones grinned, the glee in his voice returning as he looked at the image.

Jim's scowled. It was in high school he was 16 and a girl he'd been wanting to impress only seemed to date guys with long hair. "A lot of guys had hair like that back then," he grumbled, sipping on his iced tea.

"Sure they did, Jim, you keep telling yourself that," Bones laughed, then laughed even harder when Jim gave him a look that said Bones would be doing inventory for the entire ship as soon as they were aboard.

Bones grinned wider in reply.
