I didn't hear about the show until late in it's original run, and most people were pushing it on me based on the merits of Buffy & Angel (which I never really watched), so I never got into it. SciFi ran the entire series before Serenity came out so I watched it then and I was hooked immediately.

I got the series DVD a couple of weeks ago and we watched the 2 hour pilot last night which is why I posted this.

i heard about it, and didn't pay attention when it was originally airing. i LOVE buffy, angel is ok, but just couldn't get my head around a 'space western'.

i only saw part of the original pilot, which was aired LAST - didn't like it. i saw the beginning, w/ all the battle stuff, and went 'ewww, battle scenes, bleh.'

when they were doing the preview screening for serenity a friend asked if i was interested. sure, why not, i'm up for something new.

Oh My God. that was one of the best viewing experiences i have EVER had. Sean and Morena were there. the crowd was electric. it was WONDERFUL. and the movie rocked too.

so, therefore, i was HOOKED.

never again will i disparage the Whedon w/o watching at least an entire episode. i should have known better.

I had seen several episodes of Buffy during it's first season and I wasn't impressed. And Whedon's film work has been hit or miss to me in the past. So when everyone started raving about Firefly and were mostly pushing the 'He did Buffy' angle, I just sorta shrugged and blew it off.

Now that I have the TiVos, I tend to give any new series at least a few episodes to prove itself. So far it has worked out pretty well. I got interested in The 4400 after SciFi re-ran the first season last year right before the second season aired. And I am soooo glad I gave the new Battlestar Galatica a fair shake. It's been some of the best new TV I've seen the past year or so.

I'm sorry puddin' - you know I love you, but Firefly was teh Sux0r. I WANTED to like it, badly. I tried. And tried. And tried some more. But no joy. Completely unengaging.

That surprises me a little. To each his own.

One of the things I like most about the show is the somewhat sarcastic and flippant interactions of the characters.

I am not one for much TV. So, on that note, I never watched the series when it aired. Didn't even know it existed. Then I went down to DC and stayed with S&L for a time while doing their kitchen remodel. L is a big fan of the series, so he had the DVD set as soon as they came out. I was asked if I would be interested in watching a *space western* series that was cancelled... well.. I shrugged and said sure. (tried to hide the eye rolling). Well, long story short, I was hooked immediately. Everytime I go down there I watch the entire run. I cant get tired of it. In my opinion, it is one of the best written TV series ever and the casting was flawless. I have the theme song on my PC and listen to it on occasion just because. I love it. Short but sweet. To the point. *sigh* they just don't make 'em like that anymore. With exception to BG. That is a kick ass show too. I can't wait til I come down to your place so I can feed my need for the shows I have missed.

BSG is a completely different animal to me. Firefly feels much more tongue-in-cheek and seat of the pants, while Battlestar Galactica feel much more like a heavy drama/thriller/disaster that happens to be set in space.

Both good shows though.

I have to agree wholeheartedly there. Firefly was just plain flat out FUN!!!!!!!! Written intellegently with strong characterizations and ultra quotable dialog. I don't think I've watched anything on FOX since. They're run by complete asshats.

We need more TV like Firefly, not less.

misunderstanding... I wasnt comparing apples to apples. Just that I lovbe both shows. I also liked Farscape a lot, but then it felt like they just ran out of good writing toward the end.
