I'm doing some research for family class and I just read an article I found interesting. It's about how more families today have two working parents. There is actually a large push right now towards having year-round schools and, as much as I am looking forward to summers off, I am all for the year-round schooling. It's way better than the schedule we are on now. I don't really think that lengthening the school day is a good idea, but it definitely should be shifted to start later and end later to accomodate the different biological clocks of children. This of course creates problems because of the parent's schedules, but I promise that it would be a LOT easier to teach a first period class at 10:00 than at 7:50. I firmly believe that change in this country stems from the classroom and education experience of it's people. If we want a better, more healthy and happy country, we need stronger and more efficient schools. Schools that will actually challenge students to think and understand and question. Schools that push ALL levels to do better and to go farther, not just the advanced students. Schools that prepare ALL students for higher education, not just the ones that they ( ... )
