"I may be as clever as you, but I’m at least smart enough..." I think you may be missing a "not" here :)
I wonder what it's like to be one of the regular workers in the office -- I can imagine the gossip mill has been productive recently. Poor boys though, tiny conference room like that - everyone's on edge.
I bet that's what we all think-'Everything’s going to be fine, he reassures himself. This whole thing with Sherlock will come and go, but he’ll be fine'
Every time I get to the end, I keep desperately hoping to see a link to the next chapter. My F5 button hates, you, btw. ;)
This line: "Sherlock showed up, this bright, trailing star, and for a moment John thought it was the sun, let himself be pulled out of orbit, but soon it’ll be gone, and everything will go back to the way it was before." My gosh, the imagery, the prose-- it's absolutely stunning. I couldn't not tell you how much I loved it.
And Bill. Oh, dear sweet wonderful Bill. I need a Bill in my life. I think we all do. The "uncomplicated decency" phrase is brilliant and perfect. Maybe I should just let you know now that I'm not a complete nutter, but I do love you beyond reason and I want to roll around in this fic.
You're going to be posting again soon, right? Although you could post a chapter an hour, and until it's done (and maybe even not then) it won't be enough. <3
Thanks so much for this kind, thoughtful response. I'm really pleased to know you're enjoying this fic. That line about Sherlock was a bit of a late addition, so I'm glad it worked, and as for Bill, yeah, I think we all do need a Bill in our lives. I've been thinking a lot about decency myself recently, and your lovely comment is, I hope you know, a much appreciated instance of it.
As for updates, there will absolutely be more soon, and if all goes according to plan, everything should be wrapped up by this time next week. Only seven parts left! Thanks again for taking the time to let me know you're enjoying this!
